Every success that I've had in my life has been very hard-fought and has been a process of a lot of behind-the-scenes work undertaken consistently, aggressively, and anonymously. You move these mountains over a very slow period of time.

If you don't know what your purpose is, I can't tell you what your purpose is; you have to discover that for yourself. And that journey of self-discovery requires you to look inward, also in a rigorous and objective way, to try to figure out what it is about who you are that a) makes you uniquely you and b) that you feel inspired to uniquely express.

When you build that into a habit where being of service to other people in a selfless way is a reflex rather than a burden or an obligation, that, in my experience, and what I've seen with other people, is probably the best way to set you on a trajectory that's going to connect you with some kind of purpose in your life.

I just want to encourage people to find a way to transcend the predominant media narrative that seems hell-bent on pitting us against each other ... Be more conscious about not just your media choices but how you carry that sensibility into the world in the manner in which you interact with other people ... When you go out into the world, it doesn't feel like what we're seeing on social media and on the national news. People are fundamentally good, and we share so much more than what appears to divide us right now.

What happens is people want the success; they want the result; they don't appreciate the hard work that goes into it; and they're not patient enough to undertake the long journey required and the learning that gets packed into all of that to mature and grow over time.

There's also this explosion in meat and dairy analogues. There are so many more delicious, processed dairy and animal product-free products that you can get at the store, and the challenge then becomes to understand that this is about whole foods; it's not about just being vegan. You can have a terrible diet eating just vegan now more so than ever.

Addiction lives on this incredibly broad spectrum. And it’s a spectrum so broad that almost anybody can find themselves somewhere along the line.

You can't think your way into the mood that you seek or the state of mind that you aspire to inhabit. Action is the only thing that can trigger that change state.

Your life immediately becomes more meaningful when you're of service to others.

You can't control the insanity of the chaotic world; you can't control what other people are going to do; you can't control the news cycle. All you control is your reaction to all of that and how you comport yourself.

Most people overestimate what they can do in a short period of time, whether it's a month or six months or a year, and wildly underestimate what they're capable of accomplishing over a decade or a number of years.

You can't destroy the dark thing, the evil thing. It can never be destroyed. The best you can do is cultivate enough light that you have a balance ... And that's not just within society; that's within yourself because we all have these dark thoughts ... That's just part of the human condition.

This idea: 'Oh, I can't live without food X.' Your cravings are malleable. Your cravings are dictated by what you're putting into your body.

I think the larger problem is how entrenched we've become in those ideas, such that when we're presented with a counterfactual narrative, no matter how compelling that narrative, it's irrelevant. It doesn't matter. It's not going to move the needle in terms of how that person is seeing the world. Whether it's the Trump voter who can't be talked out of voting for Trump or the super liberal person who sees the world in a specific way, the idea that you're going to change these people's minds... We all know how difficult that is.

None of us are static. In every moment, we are shifting and we are changing. And every decision that we make, every interaction that we have, every word that comes out of our mouth, is either moving us towards a better, more authentic version of ourselves or away from it.

All you can control is yourself. The path forward is to be the best version of yourself so that you're equipped to handle all those other things that you cannot control.

The quick fix kind of hack your life mentality is a close cousin to the clickbait soundbite media culture. We all want it now. We want it immediately. We want to be the best version of ourselves tomorrow. We want to read this book or do this one thing and fix everything overnight. And it just doesn't work that way.

Omnivores tend to think of adopting a plant-based diet as something that's very difficult, that's going to be very time-consuming, and that unless you are supplementing with all kinds of supplements, you're going to be deficient ... All I can tell you is that hasn't been my experience.

It is weird that everything is political now. There used to be politics and everything else, but now there's nothing that isn't part and parcel of a political discussion.

Just because you have something in your life that's not functioning properly doesn't mean that you have to cast aside everything else and do something super drastic ... Those bold steps, although sexy, have ramifications for the other people in your life.

If you Google my name, there's a lot of misguided narratives out there that me adopting a vegan diet is what got me sober or that ultra-endurance training is what got me sober or keeps me sober, and those are all wildly inaccurate. I mean, I was sober for almost 10 years before I made these lifestyle shifts.

Mindfulness does not necessitate formal meditation per se, but mindfulness is certainly a byproduct of a formal meditation practice.

There is no unified source of 'truth' anymore; we're all self-selecting our information silos.

No one can tell you how you feel or how you're going to react to something—you have control over that.

There are a lot of financial reasons why you shouldn't own a home. There are a lot of reasons why it's a really bad idea.
